Chen Wenying

Chen Wenying. Ph.D., Professor in Energy, Environment and Economy (3E) Research Institute, Tsinghua University. She is also the deputy director of the research group.

Prof. Chen’s research activities have focused on energy system modeling, energy development and climate change mitigation strategy study. She has been the leader for more than 30 projects. Her modelling activities include China MARKAL-MACRO, China TIMES, China regional MARKAL/TIMES, global TIMES model and etc. She has been also involved into CCS (carbon capture and storage) researches, in particular, development of an ArcGIS-based Decision Support System for mapping of carbon emission sources and sinks for CCS in China.

Prof. Chen has published over 100 scientific papers in the areas of energy environment and economy modelling, carbon permit allocation and trading, CDM potentials and carbon price, carbon capture and storage, and etc. She is also the author of 25 book sections. She was the coordinating lead author for the Second and Third National Assessment on Climate Change. She served as a Review Editor of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report WGIII: Climate Change Mitigation, and a Review Editor of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Synthesis Report.

Prof. Chen received her bachelor degree, master degree and Ph.D. from Tsinghua University. She also worked on energy modeling in Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland from 1999 to 2000. She was also awarded a Fellowship to work three months in UNFCCC (United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change) Secretariat in 2001.
