During this year’s Vienna Energy Forum (VEF2015), UNIDO will host a networking event on “Women for Sustainable Energy” on Friday 19th June 2015 from 16:30 – 17:30 to reaffirm UNIDO and its partners’ strong commitment to gender mainstreaming energy initiatives, and to further recognize and promote the catalytic role of women in sustainable energy. Distinguished guests will be invited to speak on strategies to strengthen and promote the energy-gender nexus. The event will provide a platform for participants to exchange knowledge and deliberate on the impacts of socio-cultural norms and perceptions of gender in the energy sector, as well as to discuss and connect ideas surrounding women’s economic empowerment and sustainable energy access, which can result in innovative synergies and collaboration.
Hosted and organized by UNIDO, in close collaboration with the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), ENERGIA, and with the support of ESMAP, highlights of the event will include the #standtall campaign, a global initiative of ECREEE aiming to raise awareness of the under-utilized potential of women in the energy sector and to spur concerted actions, from both men and women, to address energy challenges. A photo booth will be an opportunity for all guests and participants to show support for women’s empowerment.
