Clean Energy Ministerial: Progress on Implementation, Path Forward

This event will share the outcomes from the recent Sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6) held in Mérida, Mexico, last month. Established in 2009, the CEM advances collaboration among a group of 23 countries and the European Commission to accelerate the global transition to clean energy. Participants will discuss the value of the CEM as a forum for efficiently helping countries achieve their national climate and clean energy goals. Participants will also highlight actions taken at CEM6 to address three critical technology and policy challenges – efficient lighting, low-carbon power systems, and capacity building for clean energy deployment – and how collaboration between these efforts and Sustainable Energy for All and other high-level efforts can drive faster progress. Highlighted efforts will include the CEM’s Global Lighting Challenge, which leverages the technical work done through the CEM’s appliance efficiency initiative as well as the work of SE4ALL’s EE lighting accelerator, and elevates the objectives to high-level political endorsement. This, and other similar efforts, can serve as a model for further collaboration and progress on the Road to Paris and beyond.
