First released in 2005, REN21’s annual Renewables Global Status Report provides a comprehensive and timely overview of renewable energy markets, industries, investments, and policy developments worldwide. Ten years after its first release, it is the most referenced report on renewable energy market, industry and policy trends.  During the side event, participants will learn about new investments in power, heat and transport, evolving markets and industry trends that occurred in 2014.  The emergence of new or regressive policies will be detailed as will the contribution of renewables to larger socio-economic issues such as jobs.

Arthouros Zervos – Chair of REN21
Dr Zervos has more than 30 years of high level expertise in policy, science, research and technology across the European renewable energy sector.  He has led key European renewable energy bodies and has acted as policy advisor to Governments, EU bodies and policy fora. As a  Faculty Member at the National Technical University of Athens, he teaches courses on wind energy, renewable energy sources and aerodynamics.

Pradeep Monga – Director of Energy & Climate Branch, UNIDO
Dr. Monga is an energy expert with over 30 years of experience in the field of energy policy, strategic planning and clean technologies.  At UNIDO his preliminary responsibility is to provide strategic policy advice to member states on sustainable energy and industrial issues. Prior to joining UNIDO in 2001, worked with UNDP for over five years and held senior positions in the Government of India. 

Kevin Nassiep –  CEO, SANEDI
As CEO, Mr. Nassiep oversees SANEDI activities, which are primarily to direct, monitor and conduct applied energy research and development, demonstration and deployment as well to undertake specific measures to promote the uptake of green energy and energy efficiency in South Africa. SANEDI was established as a successor to the South African National Energy Research Institute (SANERI) and the National Energy Efficiency Agency (NEEA).

Vivien Foster – Sector Manager of the Sustainable Energy Department, World Bank
Dr. Foster helps to lead the Bank’s thinking on issues around sustainable access to clean, efficient, reliable, and affordable energy for all citizens. She has also held the position of Lead Economist in the Office of the Director for Sustainable Development in the Africa. Prior to the World Bank, Dr. Foster advised private and public sector clients in the water and energy industries on issues relating to water sector reform.

Sven Teske – Senior Energy Expert, Greenpeace International
Since 2004 Mr. Teske has been the Director for Greenpeace’s Renewable Energy Campaign, both for both Greenpeace International and Greenpeace Germany.  In this position he led the work on the “Energy [R]evolution: a Sustainable World Energy Outlook”.  He was also lead author for the IPCC Special Report Renewables (SRREN).  Mr. Teske has recently completed a PhD thesis on grid integration strategies and infrastructural planning requirements for 100% renewable energy systems

Christine Lins  – Executive Secretary, REN21
Christine Lins was appointed as Executive Secretary of REN21, the Renewable Energy Policy Network of the 21st Century, in July 2011. Between 2001 and 2011, Ms. Lins served as Secretary General of the European Renewable Energy Council, the united voice of Europe’s renewable energy industry in Brussels. Previously, she worked in a regional energy agency in Austria promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
