Luis Gomez-Echeverri

Luis Gomez-Echeverri is a Senior Research Scholar with IIASA’s Transition to New Technologies (TNT) Program and exploratory projects. He joined IIASA in 2007, as the Associate Director of the Global Energy Assessment (GEA) after a long career with UNDP and UNFCCC. Upon the completion of the GEA in 2012, Mr. Gomez-Echeverri became a Senior Advisor to the Executive Office of the UN Secretary General on the Sustainable Energy for All initiative. In that capacity, he spearheaded and led the startup of the SE4ALL programs in over 50 developing countries.

He was a lead author of the IPCC WGIII Fifth Assessment Report – Chapter on Finance – and a member of the small Core Team responsible for producing the Synthesis Report of the IPCC AR5. His research interests are in the areas concerned with governance of energy, climate change, and foreign aid in the area of energy. His main interest at IIASA is to tap and apply the results of the vast IIASA research areas to policy and decision-making in energy and climate change. His current main area of work is on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and on the linkages between climate change and development.
