Mr. Patrick Ignatius Gomes

Secretary General, African, Caribbean & Pacific (ACP)

Dr. P.I. Gomes acquired thirty-five years working experience in international development policy analysis, social science research, planning and promotion of institutional development between developed and developing countries.

Dr. Gomes has an excellent record of interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and wide experience in negotiating mutually beneficial programmes with higher education, research institutes, international donor agencies,  agricultural sector interests.

A citizen of Guyana, Dr. Gomes was appointed as Ambassador in 2005 and until taking office as ACP Secretary General on 1 March 2015, served also as Ambassador of the Republic of Guyana to the European Union and the European Commission, the Kingdom of Belgium and the African, Caribbean & Pacific (ACP) Group of States, resident in Brussels, Belgium. He is also non-Resident Ambassador to Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands and Norway.  Ambassador Gomes is Guyana’s representative to the WTO, FAO and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
